Fiber and multimedia artists Laura R. Gadson and Donna "Shimoda" Emanuel will expound on their journeys as creatives and caregivers in an evening of art and dialog.
Work from both artists will be on exhibition from 4-8PM on Wednesday, October 20th and will include an artist talk. These African American female artists have partnered on various projects for over a decade, and both found themselves taking care of mom while remaining creative and entrepreneurial.
Their stories were highlighted on BlackArtinAmerica.com in a piece written by Trelani Michelle earlier this year. Art for the two has been their passion, their medicine, their release, and a loving way to bring joy to their incapacitated elders.
Laura and Shimoda also share their love of working with fabrics and fiber while finding the processes soothing and meditative. Ironically in 2021 both had their roles with mom drastically change.
Stitching has helped with this new emotional territory. One could say "A stitch in time could save the heart and mind"
